Timbuk Toys – what we’re
all about
Mission Statement:
Our products, service, and stores connect our customers to the joy
of play, imagination and discovery. In what we sell and how we do
it, fun is at the heart of our business!
History:
Timbuk Toys was started in 1993 as a tiny store on a quiet street
tucked away in one of Denver’s old, historic neighborhoods.
Local families enjoyed the classic charm of the old-style toyshop
where children were invited behind the counter to help pull the lever
of the antique cash register. Customers often stepped up to the wrap
table to help out with the gift-wrapping, and a pair of squawky lovebirds
drew as much attention as the toys. Today there are three delightful
Timbuk Toys stores located in busy neighborhood shopping centers
where families continue to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and sense
of community.

Staff:
The people who work at Timbuk Toys are women and men of all different
ages and backgrounds. We are privileged to attract a work force from
diverse professions. We also hire a large number of students and
have had the pleasure of providing foundational training in many
skills, including customer service. All of our staff takes pride
in creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where customers enjoy
efficient, professional service.

Product Selection:
Timbuk Toys is renowned for offering Denver’s most creative
selection of quality toys and gifts for children. Our toys are exciting
to receive and fun to give. We are always looking for items with
great “play-value;” the amount of value in a toy to support
or enhance the process of play. We are guided by the principle that
play is critical to a child’s development and we are committed
to providing toys that are tools for learning and discovery. That’s

Colorado Products:
Colorado is full of creative, entrepreneurial people who are bringing
quality products to the children’s market, and it is our delight
to support these local companies and individuals. We identify products
that are from companies located in our home state as “Colorado
Products.” Note: products are not necessarily manufactured
in Colorado since we are recognizing Colorado companies that may
have their products manufactured elsewhere.
USA Made Toys:
For our customers who seek products made here in United States of
America, we have a department that groups all these toys together.
We know that some people want products specifically made here in
the USA, other people simply want to avoid products manufactured
in China or countries where labor laws are unregulated and the carbon
footprint of transportation is significant. We take significant precautions
in choosing only reputable companies with whom to work, but toys
are made all around the globe. Our USA Made Toys department is a
tribute to the American companies who are figuring out how to bring
cost-effective products to the marketplace without going overseas.
We hope to see this department grow and grow!
Toy Safety – CPSIA:
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act was enacted in July 14,
2008 to regulate safety in children’s products. The provisions
of this complex law can be viewed at http://www.cpsc.gov/ under
CPSIA. The law states that “Certificates of Compliance (COC’s)
are required for every children’s product made available for
sale.” For every product we sell, we require a guarantee
from our suppliers that says, “By acceptance of this order,
Vendor guarantees that all items meet the current requirements of
the CPSIA and that certificates of compliance are available for all
items shipped.” In addition to this preventative step, we
follow daily updates sent out by the CPSC of recalls and safety infractions
in children’s products. If there is ever a recall of an item
we carry, it is pulled from our shelves immediately!
Sadly, this law also means that we are unable to sell some wonderful
items that are being developed locally because the cost of getting
certification is too expensive for the individuals who are making
these products. In many cases, these items are made of organic fabrics
and wood and in no way pose a threat to children. However until the
law makes an exception that allows retailers of children’s
products to sell reasonable products without COC’s, we are
unable to consider these items for our selection.
Supporting
our Communities
Timbuk Toys is a community-based retailer with stores located in
neighborhood shopping centers. Our purpose has always been to be
an intrinsic part of the communities we serve. We are eager to participate
in community functions when opportunities are suited to what we can
offer and we welcome organizations to bring requests to our store
managers!
Timbuk Toys “FUNdraiser” Program:
A fundraising program for local schools and organizations. When it’s
time to “raise some FUNds” consider partnering with us
for a Timbuk Toys FUNdraiser! Participants earn a donation worth
20% of applicable purchases made during a designated 10-day shopping
period. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it works!

In-Store Services:
FREE Gift Wrap – Our gifts are as fun on
the outside as they are on the inside! Colorful paper, bright
ribbons, packages of all shapes and sizes; it’s a child’s
dream to tear into these enticing packages! We minimize materials
by not using gift boxes and use curling ribbon to hold gifts together
and add some colorful frill. Timbuk Toys gift cards are complimentary,
or add your own greeting card. Depending on availability, we always
try to have paper themed for babies, girls and boys as well as
Christmas and Hanukkah paper during the holidays.
Shopping Assistance – Our Staffs are eager
to help you find the best gifts, so we’re happy to help
you shop! Need a suggestion? – Just ask and we’ll
point out toys that match what you’re looking for. We think
about and talk about toys and play all day long, so you can be
sure you’re getting an expert opinion when you come to us
for advice on shopping for toys!
Shipping – Save time and hassle by having
us ship packages for you! We ship by FedEx and can usually send
out your packages within one business day of your purchase.
In-store pickup – Save time and save the
shipping fee by ordering on line and picking up your parcels at
one of our stores. We can have your gifts wrapped and ready to
go; we’ll even bring your bags to your car if you need that
assistance.
Just tell us in the shopping cart comments that you want to pick-up your order and which store you will be pickup from.
The shopping cart will still show the shipping fee, but we will remove the fee prior to processing your order.
Special Orders – We welcome special orders
when you need items in large quantity or if we have run out of
an item you want. Due to wholesale ordering restrictions,
we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to get your item(s)
ordered immediately, but we’ll try. We also like
to know your suggestions of items we don’t carry; some of
our best selections have been due to customer recommendations!
Amenities – All our stores are equipped
with spacious, clean bathrooms that include changing tables. We
also have available folding chairs that can be used around the
store for customers who need to sit down.
Discount programs we offer:
Timbuk Star Card – this is a discount program
for all our loyal customers! Star Cards are for those who shop with
us regularly and it gives a savings of $5.00 off after spending $100.
10% Discount for School Teacher – Teachers
are our partners in promoting leaning through creative play! We know
that anything purchased by a school teacher from Timbuk Toys is apt
to end up in the classroom, or at least influence what goes on in
the classroom. We also know that teachers are often not able to get
financial backing to support all their creative inspirations, and
we want to encourage teachers to use our products in their classrooms.
As a token or our appreciation for promoting Timbuk Toys to their
students and families, we offer this discount to our local teachers.
(This discount program is limited to walk in purchases in our retail store by local teachers who are working
for public or private schools, teaching pre-school through high school
grades.)
10% Discount for Senior Citizens on Wednesdays – We
love giving our Senior customers the time and attention they deserve,
so this discount is designed to encourage Senior Citizens to shop
with us on Wednesdays when we are best staffed to serve them.

How we reach out to our customers:
Customer List – This is our database of our
customers by name and address that tracks sales history. It is an
internal list used ONLY used by Timbuk Toys. All customers who order
online are automatically included in this database list, and store
customers are encouraged to be entered on this list. The benefits
to being on our Customer List:
- Facilitate returns and exchanges. We will be able to access
your prior purchases if you forget your receipt.
- Track your purchases in case you want to review what you have
already bought.
- Track store credits and review other applied discounts.
- Receive holiday catalogs and occasional post cards if desired.
Mail – Holiday catalogs and an occasional
post card are mailed to customers on our Customer List who have shopped
with us within a limited amount of time. However, anyone can opt
for “no mail” if preferred. We certainly want to avoid
sending unwanted mail and wasting postage!
Email – Our Email List is separate from our
Customer List and is only for customers who opt in. Email recipients
receive “Fun New,” our monthly e-newsletter, and occasionally
we use email to send additional announcements about happenings at
Timbuk Toys.
“FunNews” – the monthly e-newsletter
from Timbuk Toys
Fun News is sent our within the first week of each month and includes
E-promo special discounts, product info and announcements.
Holiday Catalogs – The Timbuk Toys holiday
catalog is a production of Toy Collection. Toy Collection selects
catalog items with input from participating retailers, including
Timbuk Toys. Occasionally circumstances beyond our control affect
pricing or availability of featured items. Catalogs are mailed to
current families on our Customer List (excluding those who have elected
to have no mail sent) plus some additional addresses purchased through
the Toy Collection mailing service.

Snow Schedules - Generally the U-Hills store will hold to regular hours while Lowry and Highlands Ranch are apt to delay opening until 11:00 on snowy mornings. Closing times will only change if the weather is severe.
